Description
Keep the grit in the bucket, not on your paint.
Most wash swirls come from grit. Every time you dip a dirty wash mitt back into the bucket, the dirt you just took off the car goes back into the water, and then back onto the paint, where it acts like sandpaper. The Maxshine Sand Killer sits in the bottom of your wash bucket and traps that grit below it, so your mitt picks up clean, soapy water instead.
How it works
Rub your mitt against the guard when you rinse it. Dirt and grit fall through the grille and settle at the bottom of the bucket, where the guard stops them being stirred back up. Your mitt stays cleaner, your water stays cleaner, and you cut the main cause of wash-induced swirls.

The two-bucket method
- Set up two buckets, each with a grit guard: one with shampoo, one with clean rinse water. Use different colour guards so you never mix them up.
- Load your mitt in the shampoo bucket and wash one panel, top-down.
- Rinse the mitt in the rinse bucket, rubbing it against the grit guard to release the dirt.
- Reload in the shampoo bucket and move to the next panel.
Pair it with
- A pH-neutral shampoo such as Car Candy CandyCoat Revive or Vintex Lava Autos
- A soft wash sponge like the DIY Detail Legacy Sponge
FAQs
Will it fit my bucket?
It's 26.5 cm in diameter and designed for Maxshine buckets. Measure the base of your bucket to check the fit.
Do I need one in each bucket?
For the two-bucket method, yes. One in the rinse bucket is the minimum, but one in each gives the cleanest wash.
How do I clean it?
Lift it out using the centre finger holes, rinse it and tip out the grit at the bottom of the bucket.
