The DIY Detail Legacy Sponge is the evolution of the rinseless wash sponge, developed by DIY Detail's Yvan Lacroix. It's extra-large, thick and soft, holds plenty of water and solution, and is built to wash paint gently, whether you're doing a rinseless wash or a traditional bucket wash.

Grit stays below the surface

The Legacy Sponge is made from a matrix of individual foam cubes. Grit and grime picked up from the paint are drawn down between the cubes, away from the surface touching the car, reducing the risk of scratching. Squeeze the sponge in your bucket and the trapped grit releases easily.

Thick, even and comfortable

Its thick profile spreads pressure evenly across the paint, so there are no hard spots from your fingers. It's also comfortable to hold and easy to grip through a long wash.

Holds more water and solution

The extra-large sponge holds much more water and wash solution than a standard sponge. That means more lubrication on the paint and fewer trips back to the bucket.

How to use for a rinseless wash

1. Mix: prepare a bucket of rinseless wash solution at the recommended dilution.
2. Soak: submerge the sponge and let it fully absorb the solution.
3. Pre-soak the car: spray each panel with rinseless solution, or wring the sponge over it.
4. Wash: glide the sponge across the panel in straight lines with light pressure.
5. Dry: follow straight away with a plush microfibre drying towel.
6. Release the grit: squeeze the sponge in the bucket after each panel, then reload with solution.

Pro tips

• Use a grit guard in your bucket so released dirt sinks out of reach.
• Work top-down and do the dirtiest lower panels last.
• Heavy mud? Rinse it off first. Rinseless washing is for light to moderate dirt.
• Rinse thoroughly after use and let it air-dry.

Can I use it with normal car shampoo?
Yes. It works just as well in a traditional bucket wash.
