Gtechniq EXOv5 Ultra Durable Hydrophobic Coating

Gtechniq EXOv5 is an ultra-durable hydrophobic coating that delivers a high-gloss, warm-looking finish with extreme water beading. It forms a hard, dense film that resists wash chemicals and road salt, makes water spots easy to remove, and helps withstand micro-marring. Gtechniq rates it at 18–24 months' durability.

Use it alone or as a top coat

Apply EXOv5 as a standalone coating, or as a hydrophobic top layer over Gtechniq C1 Crystal Lacquer or Crystal Serum Light. Gtechniq recommends a C1 or CSL base coat for soft or dark paints that mark easily.

Stays performing for longer

A less porous coating resists clogging, so EXOv5 keeps its hydrophobic and dirt-repellent performance between washes. It has a 115° water contact angle and a 13° water drainage angle.

Easier to apply

A slow flash-off time gives you more working time to achieve a perfect, streak-free finish.

How much do I need?

• 30 mL: cars up to and including a medium wagon (for example a BMW 3 Series Touring)
• Larger SUVs, 4WDs and full-size vehicles: allow two 30 mL bottles

Before you start

• Work out of direct sunlight, with the vehicle above 5 °C and completely dry.
• The vehicle must stay dry for at least 12 hours after application.
• Polish the paint first if needed, because a coating locks in the current finish. An all-in-one like 3D ONE is ideal, as it's filler-free.
• You'll need at least two, ideally four, clean edgeless microfibre coating towels, such as our Korean Edgeless Pearl Knit Coating Removal Cloths.

How to apply

1. Wipe down: apply a panel wipe to a clean edgeless microfibre towel and wipe all surfaces. Apply it to the towel, not the panel. Skip this step if you're applying straight over freshly applied C1 or CSL.
2. Gloves on: wear the nitrile gloves provided.
3. Load the applicator: put 5–10 drops of EXOv5 on the applicator and work it in for even saturation.
4. Apply: use overlapping strokes over an area of about 60 × 60 cm, or work to the body lines.
5. Wait: how long depends on the surface temperature (see the table below).
6. First wipe: fold a microfibre towel twice and, with a light touch, spread and remove most of the residue.
7. Final wipe: with a second folded towel, remove all remaining residue. Check from direct and angled views under bright, flat lighting.

Flash time by surface temperature

Applying over C1 or CSL

• Over C1 Crystal Lacquer: apply EXOv5 more than 2 hours but less than 12 hours after finishing C1.
• Over Crystal Serum Light: apply immediately, or up to 24 hours after finishing CSL. If you apply immediately, start in the same place and follow the same panel order.

Aftercare

• Wash with a pH-neutral shampoo such as Car Candy CandyCoat Revive. Caustic wash chemicals shorten the life of any coating.
• Products applied over EXOv5 replace its surface performance with their own.
• Unopened shelf life is 12 months.
