Description
Professional finishes, without the rotary learning curve.
Rotary polishers are powerful, but they take years to master and it's easy to leave holograms or burn through an edge. The 3M Perfect-It Random Orbital Polisher combines a circular, oscillating motion with a long 21 mm throw, giving you strong correction with far less risk. It's light, easy to learn and built to deliver a consistent, high-gloss finish on a wide range of paints and clear coats.
Why random orbital?
A rotary spins in one fixed circle, which builds heat and can leave holograms and swirl marks. A random orbital polisher spins and oscillates at the same time, spreading the work across the paint. The result is less heat, much less risk of burn-through, minimal holograms and less product sling. That makes it the safer choice for both beginners and experienced detailers.
Long 21 mm throw
The 21 mm orbit covers more paint with every pass, so you can correct large panels like bonnets, roofs and doors faster than with a short-throw machine. It's paired with a 150 mm (6") backing pad for efficient, even coverage.
Key features
- Random orbital action: much lower risk of holograms, swirls and burn-through than a rotary
- 21 mm long throw: fast correction and coverage on larger panels
- 150 mm (6") backing pad: efficient, even polishing
- Variable speed control: set the speed to suit the job
- Progressive speed trigger: fine control over the power you apply
- Lightweight: less fatigue over a full detail
- Less sling: keeps product on the paint, not on you or the workshop
- Long power cord: less time managing cables
- 230V: runs from standard Australian power

Part of the 3M Perfect-It system
The polisher is designed to work with 3M's Perfect-It range of compounds, polishes and pads. Together they give technicians of all skill levels a simple, repeatable process for a high-quality finish, from collision-repair paint finishing to full paint correction.
Ideal for
- Paint correction and one-step polishing
- Collision repair and refinishing
- Large panels such as bonnets, roofs and doors
- Detailers moving up from a short-throw DA
- Anyone who wants pro results without the risks of a rotary
Getting started
- Fit a pad: attach a 6" or 6.5" pad to the 150 mm backing plate.
- Prime the pad: spread a small amount of compound or polish across the face.
- Start on the paint: place the pad flat on the surface before you pull the trigger, so there's no sling.
- Work slowly: use slow, overlapping passes, letting the machine do the work with light to moderate pressure.
- Keep it flat: tilting the pad reduces rotation and correction.
- Wipe and inspect: remove the residue and check your results under good light.
FAQs
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. Random orbital action makes it much more forgiving than a rotary, so it's easy to learn.
What size pads does it take?
It has a 150 mm (6") backing pad, which suits 6" and 6.5" polishing pads.
Can I use other brands' pads and polishes?
Yes. It's designed around the 3M Perfect-It system, but it works with any quality hook-and-loop pads and polishes.
Is it good for tight areas?
The long throw is built for larger panels. For tight areas and small parts, a mini polisher is a better fit.
